Columbus Weekend Mom Visit
so my mom was in town this past weekend for columbus day (i had a four day weekend) and we walked our feet off all around downtown DC on friday and monday. friday we saw three smithsonians - arts and industries, natural history, and american history - and all were very good. that night we hooked up with lindsay (who had to work friday and monday :-( ) and ate dinner at the cheescake factory near her work. on saturday, we drove down and back to colonial williamsburg and had a great day walking around, looking in shops, touring the old buildings, and eating lunch in an old tavern. that night we just sat around exhausted and played some games while watching ut get mauled. it's amazing how one play can change an entire game (the fumble at the end of the first half). it's much like the cubs and that fan - people want to focus their anger on him, but if alex gonzalez hadn't bobbled that double play ball, the cubs would've had a chance. anyways, i digress... sunday we went to church and the ladies rested after lunch at home while i worked on hw. that evening, we adventured out to dinner in adams morgan and we ate at 18th & u st. 'the deluxe diner' it was quite tasty :-) monday me and mom drove up to the national cathedral and it was beautiful. we then drove to the nat'l mall area and lucked upon a parking spot on constitution ave. right near the white house. we walked up as close as possible and got pictures of the front and back sides. then we grabbed a bite of lunch at 'the corner bakery' - delicious! we walked down pennsylvania ave. where the 'taste of dc' was going on and it looked fun. however, we were on a mission - get down to the nat'l archives, see the exhibit, and get back to the car before our 3 hour time limit ran out. we made it with about 5 minutes to spare and it was neat to see the actual declaration of independence, constitution, and bill of rights. we drove down a few blocks and grabbed another parking spot while we saw the vietnam war memorial, lincoln monument, and korean war memorial. after all that we were exhausted and went home to crash for a little while before going to get lindsay.
but hold on folks ... the fun didn't end there. on the way to take mom back to the airport, a rock (or something) hit my front passenger window and shattered it! yargh!! we got it fixed pretty quick, but how annoying!! whew! what a weekend!
