moneyball

you may have noticed to the left that i'm reading moneyball. yes, my newfound resurgent love (like?) of baseball has even crept into my reading. The book was written in 2003 and hit the baseball world by storm as a well-written look into how the oakland a's have been winning nearly 100 games for the past few years with only spending a fraction of what the yankees and red sox spend. from what i understand the book has been the driving force into ops (on-base % + slugging %) being a commonly discussed stat in the baseball world in the past few years. if you hadn't noticed, you'd think people had been talking ops for decades (maybe they have - help me out if i'm off base).
