trips i'd like to take

ok, i got to looking at that updated map below and thinking of ways to finish it. thus, here are some trips i'd like to take in the next few years:

  • new orleans, la & gulfport, ms - i've wanted to visit nawlins for a while and visiting this nearby beach in mississippi finishes off all the non-new england states east of the mississippi river for me.
  • san diego - it's smaller than the enormous sprawl of los angeles, it's supposed to always be beautiful there, and it has a nazarene university overlooking the beach that i'd like to visit. of course we'd also like to visit san fran as an option to check off california.
  • las vegas - i've heard that the first trip needs to be focused more on being a tourist so that future visits can be focused on ... the point of the trip.
  • four corners, az, co, ut, nm - i've always wanted to visit the four corners spot ever since i found out about it as a kid. it knocks off four states at once (well, i've been to az) and we could probably see the grand canyon too. not sure where we'd start this trip - denver?
  • new england - we could try to hit all these at once by headquartering in boston and taking daytrips to foxwoods casino in ct, coming back through rhode island, and somehow hitting vt, nh, and me possibly in the same day
  • seattle - this finishes the pacific northwest (though i'll agree our visit to oregon is somewhat suspect) and also offers the option of hopping up the road to visit vancouver or at least crossing the canadian border
  • montana, wyoming, south dakota, nebraska - no clue how to get these states besides just going there and the only thing i can think of to see besides the scenery is mount rushmore which i hear is kind of disappointing.
of course there's also the around the country summer trip to visit baseball stadiums, but that's almost definitely something for retirement now that we're pretty much settled into adulthood.

When we did our Four Corners trip, we looked into the Grand Canyon. It adds about 10 hours of driving from FC to the North Rim (no major highway there, even though it looks like a straight shot) and 8 hours to the more popular South Rim, so we couldn't do it this time. However, I'm told they had a tiny airport near there a couple of decades ago that might be worth looking into. :)

Vancouver is 1.5 hours from Seattle. Totally worth the trip just to see speed limits in km/h. :)
