manly do-it-yourself work
with the help of poker buddy victor, we took up the old bathroom "peel and stick" floor and laid 14" resilient tile that we got as a gift from L's parents for christmas (thanks!!). victor, another poker buddy will, and i will be doing the same thing to the kitchen next weekend. it should be easier now that we know what we're doing (and that the iron is extremely handy in getting the old tile up!). Here are the results from this weekend (with new paint to come and baseboards to be installed):

weekend update
i seem to keep posting about our weekend activities, but i guess that's because the weekdays are so similar: get up, get everyone ready, travel to work, work, travel home, dinner, bedtime for jake, tv time, an occasional bit of hw, and getting to bed earlier than i did during the crazy fall semester because life is much better this semester. :-)
on to the update - friday nite we went out to chili's and just hung out after a long week. saturday morning L ran some errands while i fed and played with jake. when she got back we went to home depot to finally order the custom closet doors to finish replacing them throughout the house. after that we went to cartoon cuts for jake's first haircut (pictured below). he screamed a bit until he got settled and started watching barney; i sat down next and switched it to scooby doo. a fine selection i do believe. that evening we went up to arlington for a birthday party for missy and her roommate dawn that was a lot of fun. it was starkly reminiscent of our first year here in no.va. when we seemed to get together with groups of new to the area young professionals all the time. so many things change when you move to the burbs and become parents haha :-) (a pre-emptive strike: that wasn't a negative comment on my current state in life so don't read anything into that).
sunday was church and then we finally had a birthday party for jake at ruby tuesday's it was a fun time with our church friends and we even brought cake :-) afterwards, we trucked it home and napped for too long and then fed jake dinner and i tried to finally get some hw done haha. i didn't end up finishing it up until last nite (when it was due), but now i'm joyfully on spring break for a week :-) except for the fact that we call it "reading week" and i need to read a book for next week so i can have time to work on a midterm essay.
oh yeah the tourney! well, i was doing pretty good in the first couple of rounds, but i had syracuse in the final four and gt going further so my future prospects aren't the greatest. as long as it's illinois vs. unc in the finals, i'll be doing pretty good.

crazy day
well, lindsay was home yesterday with a stomach bug and at 12:45 i got a call from daycare saying jake had diarrhea 4 times and needed to be picked up. luckily they called early enough so that i could catch the one early train and pick him up since i had the car at the train station. well, to complicate matters, for the first time ever (well, on the way home) i fell asleep and slept thru my stop! trains aren't like metro, they don't come every so often, in fact they don't go the other way at all!! luckily, a nice lady and daughter drove me the 10 minutes back to the other station and i was able to get jake. however, he did continue to have diarrhea the rest of the afternoon.

weekend
this past weekend we went and had some pictures for easter taken on saturday morning. at the pictures, jake was a bit better behaved, and we got the shots we needed including a good family one :-) but, he still has a little cold though.
that afternoon we cleaned house. we went to dinner at uno's and went to best buy and bought a 2nd TiVo (muwahahahaha!), some dvds and a poker game for xbox, and we watched ray that evening. it was a good flick and he definitely earned / deserved the oscar for the performance.
the second tivo is in our bedroom and will be "hers" as opposed to downstairs which will now be "his" :-) we could share recordings if i set up a wireless network in the house, but i'm not gonna do that until we move (on that note, things are going slow so it'll be a little while i guess)
sunday was church, lunch, set up tivo, nap, hw / dinner / hw :-)

birthday party at the cabin
we had such a great time seeing family and friends this past weekend! we drove down and back to knoxville on thursday and monday, respectively. my mom met us at the cabin thursday nite, as did lindsay's family. we had a good evening together and then lindsay's mom and brother cory came back on friday afternoon to help get some stuff and get things together for the party on saturday. mom's "friend" charlie and some of our knoxville friends came up friday evening and we had fun playing games and hitting the hot tub until late. saturday morning we got the house put together for the party and i fired up the grill as people started to trickle in. we had burgers and dogs and lots of other good food as we watched jake tear into his new toys. everyone kind of sat around and nodded off in the late afternoon as kids played and then we geared back up with some dinner time leftovers. most of the people stayed most of the day and we were pooped when all was said and done. we fell asleep sitting on the couch during snl and then crashed in bed until we got up with the roosters to go to l's home church. though were in the knoxville area, it still took us almost an hour to get there so we had to get a move on. we went to applebee's afterwards and even though we had called to make sure there wouldn't be much of a wait, we still had to wait an hour for our table for 11. later that evening, we finally arrived back at the cabin - just our meager family of three - and tried to gather our stuff and partially pack the car. afterwards, we watched the oscars, but being wiped out, lindsay fell asleep during chris rock's monologue. i watched the whole thing and finished up some hw. we got up the next morning, had breakfast with l's mom and bro, and we hit the road. interestingly, it was snowing when we left town and when we drove back into town so the last hour of the drive was pretty slow, but we got home, unloaded the car and tried to recuperate before we started the week.
