weekend

sorry about that lack of posting there - i had been going kinda good for a bit there. here's a recent recap:
things have been pretty good around here. thursday i went to my first washington nationals game and had a blast! ok, so it was chilly, drizzly, and we lost on an error in the 9th inning, but the experience of my first true home game was great. and the italian sausage was delish. friday nite i got 2nd of 11 in poker ($45) after winning the last two times ($45, $70) :-) I'm officially in the black as for poker winnings/losses haha. saturday i put the vanity back in the bathroom finally (L finished painting fri. nite / sat. morning) and it looks great. have to get a picture up with the new paint and shower curtain. saturday evening missy and jason came over and we went with them over to our yummy thai place and then hung out for a bit. sunday was church and then we hurried home to have lunch and let jake take a nap because we took him to 'the little gym' in springfield and he had a fun time crawling around on all the mats and walking with rails and such. we signed him up for a saturday class that he should enjoy.
the school semester is beginning to wind down; i've got 2-3 weeks left. interestingly, the classes never ramped up in activity, but i'll still be glad to be done. i'm taking a much needed break for the summer.

moneyball

you may have noticed to the left that i'm reading moneyball. yes, my newfound resurgent love (like?) of baseball has even crept into my reading. The book was written in 2003 and hit the baseball world by storm as a well-written look into how the oakland a's have been winning nearly 100 games for the past few years with only spending a fraction of what the yankees and red sox spend. from what i understand the book has been the driving force into ops (on-base % + slugging %) being a commonly discussed stat in the baseball world in the past few years. if you hadn't noticed, you'd think people had been talking ops for decades (maybe they have - help me out if i'm off base).

go nats!

well, i realized i hadn't posted in a week and what a week it's been for me. you see, i've really gotten into following the washington nationals (formerly the montreal expos, now our beloved local major league baseball team) and the team was only expected to win say 3 of its first 9 games as they were all on the road. however, those plucky players went out and went 5-4 against the best teams in our division! sure when they lost they were pretty much blown out of the water, but when they kept it close, they gave themselves a chance. now tonite is opening nite, a very historic occasion for our lil town and metropolitan area (of nearly 6 million not including baltimore et al. up the road), dubya is throwing out the first pitch, and hopefully the players will be amped and the az d-backs will be slacking.
