movie day
yesterday and today it's just been me and jake. yesterday we played and just watched tv and such (lots of bob the builder). today, tv didn't look to be that interesting so i decided to watch a movie while we played. now i've finished the second. i had ran out of netflix so i dug into my own 100+ collection. first was school ties which i really liked and had bought a while back, but had never gotten around to watching my own copy of it. now i've just finished watching the shawshank redemption. one of the best movies ever. i'm not sure what movie is next, but i've got to load the car and get some rest for the drive while jake naps.
on the 6th day of christmas...
as we prepare to leave for nashville for new year's weekend, i figured i should post about christmas and my wonderful week off of work. i took lindsay to work last friday so we could leave directly from there to head to knoxville. they let us off work on friday at 3:30p, but i didn't tell lindsay that. i went ahead and picked up jake from his last day at the daycare (he starts at the montessori preschool on jan. 3) because it would have been way out of the way to go to the mall and then back to nicholasville before picking lindsay up from work in lexington. he was in a great mood ... and then we went inside the mall. i guess there was just too much for him to see because while daddy was trying to shop for some surprise jewelry for momma, jake was being a holy terror. praise the Lord we walked in to the mall entrance right by the store and we were out within 10-15 minutes. we picked up lindsay and were in knoxville at a decent time.
we had a good restful time and jake had a big time opening presents. one of my main presents was a nationals jacket that i'll have to show you sometime. the day after christmas, i lined up with my mother-in-law in front of best buy and i got myself a $500 pc laptop. it's a blast and wireless internet in the house is fun too. it looks like it will function as a replacement for my pc desktop that i bought in the summer of 1998 (wow 7.5 years. i upgraded the processor, added ram and a large hard drive, but that's it. what a champ.). the old computer still runs well, but i've wanted a laptop for a while. i found out around finals week that my old laptop just couldn't really cut it anymore. well, if you don't mind running one word document at a time, i guess it runs fine. speaking of new computers, my department was getting rid of some old p2-400's and i got one for jake. we got him this play keyboard and computer game and i figured it'd be easier to have his own machine. by my count i guess that makes 5 computers in the house. heh heh.
anyways, we drove back on monday after i finished setting up my mother-in-law's new computer and best buy stuff and my dad drove up at the same time. he got to stay home with me and jake on tuesday, but had to go on back wednesday afternoon. me and jake took lindsay to work again this morning and will again be picking her up to get on the road this evening. happy new year's everyone!

a friend in kentucky
for the first time since moving here june 30, i had a friend over (well, besides our pastor) to just hang out. it was refreshing. we have very similar spiritual interests, he's a baseball nut, and a fellow blogger (about the seattle mariners as well as his personal blog). i made chili and we 4 (lindsay, smc, jake, and peter) just watched some tv and hung out over dinner. after jake went to bed, we played some video games which was a change since i've gotten used to playing solo against the computer (yeah i know sob sob).

uneventful weekend
friday nite lindsay had a second work christmas party where yours truly was not welcome. i guess it's understandable to not invite significant others because that would almost double the number of guests, but from what i've been told, her bosses aren't really hurting for cash. anyways, me and jake had a fun evening watching tv and playing.
saturday was a lazy day. we watched dukes of hazzard (so so) in the afternoon and then went to corky's for dinner after being cooped up all day. we had the worst ribs ever, and most of the food was not as hot as it should've been, but the fried dill pickles (spears not the wonderful chips like at toot's) were the reason we came and they were really good. when we got home, we (that is, i) cleaned out the guest room closet and put an antique chest from the play room into the closet to make room for one of jake's christmas presents. i threw a lot of junk from college (and earlier) away that i haven't touched in years.
after church on sunday morning, i was backing out slowly and neglected to see a land rover parked in a place were cars shouldn't park. i barely tapped it, but it made a nice little mark so i exchanged info with the owner (who actually works at the place where our church rents for service on sunday morning) and we'll see what happens. that afternoon, i finally finished all the extra stuff on the 6th disc of the extended lord of the rings set. i had finished the 5th a while back, but it took me forever to get around to watching this one. it was great stuff. i'd love to pull the marathon and watch all three extended versions back to back to back, but i'm not sure when i'd have time - maybe lindsay will have another work christmas party.

done for the semester!
yippee!! i spent part of the day in the library yesterday finishing up my last paper. however, it was well worth it to turn the paper in during the day and then go out for a celebratory dinner with the family and then watch tv all nite rather than having to finish it in the evening while glancing at the racing clock. hey! maybe i'll post more now! we'll see... as you know i go into lulls of not posting and then daily posting.
