so yeah, i finished that nazarene online module this week and that should complete my educational requirements for ordination. now just to find a church to get some official ministry experience - 10 years with hardly any titles isn't good enough ;-)

my morning jacob

since the end of seminary, i've been taking jake to school nearly daily

whereas L and I used to try to split the taking and picking him up around 50/50. i have a few extra hours in my workday now that i'm not having to squeeze in classes so i've been getting up and at'em just a bit later and getting to work right around 8 am. lately, jake will wake up on his own while i'm fixing a bite of breakfast and i'll tell him to go to the bathroom and try to get himself dressed and ready and he's able to do it pretty well! some days he picks quite the combo of clothes (i had to say no to the red pants and brown/orange shirt combo), but it amazes me that he's able to put it all together.

we hop in the car (making sure not to forget his 'poptart' (cereal bar) and milk), roll the windows down, and look for some tunes. jake's favorite of all is still 'curious george music' - aka jack johnson - so whenever i see him on the xm dial, i flip it over there for him. whether he knows it or not, jake is growing up with a pretty good music education. be it can't miss classics (aerosmith, skynyrd, or led zep) or the best of today's modern alternative rock (death cab, coldplay, wilco, or the raconteurs), jake is learning lots (and yes, it's not too loud).

swim lessons

jake began swimming lessons monday night

and loves them! they are 40 minutes (7:30p - 8:10p) on monday through thursday for this week and next. we were halfway there last night and they called to say it was canceled due to lightning / rain. jake was very disappointed, but in the end i think he understood. he's really growing up - it's wild.

saturday daddycakes

taking a cue from our good friends, i made pancakes this past saturday morning.

i added sugar and vanilla and some baking powder to the standard bisquick mix as it suggested on the box, but for some reason i couldn't really taste the sweetness. they were alright, but i've made better! i cooked these in butter, but they weren't as golden as before - perhaps it needed more!

that's what the washington nationals' radio announcer, charlie slowes, says after one of their (rare) wins. i hope all is well with you, we have had a good week with dad in town watching after jake. he took us out to eat each night with his 'vacation money' in lieu of eating in. either would have been fine, but it was a welcome treat.

last saturday (the last day of holding a garage sale to clear out a lot of clutter), i got up and made omelets for lindsay, stephanie, and myself. i had recently seen a food network episode with some tips and they turned out really good! (for the first time ever...) i enjoy making breakfast, but i could never get omelets right - they'd always break or turn out messy.

now that i'm out of school (but still working on this last denominational modular course online), i've been watching a movie almost every night of the week (well, we played games and watched tv with dad this week) so you might miss some as i try to update the sidebar on my front page even when i don't post. i'm very close to being done with both the old and new afi top 100 lists and then i'll work on that other list i'm monitoring. after that, i recently got this book to keep me busy for years!

p.s. regarding pictures, i have some and someday i'll get around to adding 2007-2008 to the gallery :-/
